Supraventricular Tachycardia with Synchronized Cardioversion

SVT Rate: 150bpm with no visible P waves (AHA 2005 Guidelines). Unstable patients wants immediate Synchronized Cardioversion. The machine synchronizes itself to your patients ventricular depolarization (QRS) but shock upon discharge on the relative refractory period throughout ventricular repolarization (downslope of the the T wave). This prevents an R-on-T Phenomenon (causes dysrhythmias). SVT, Atrial Flutter and PSVT responds much better to 50-100 Joules for the initial shock. This stuns all irritated web sites hoping the inherent pacemaker (SA Node) takes over.

@zombieorigami I think you're stuffed. Go contact a cardiologist in France.

i am younger than you think im 10 and i have SVT up to 267 beats per minute i have a stubborn heart and was sent to the royal childrens hospital. It is a terrifying experience when i was in the short stay unit i had SVT for 1hr and1/2. i was finally normal when they gave me adenosine. 2x it felt like i was dead for a nano sec and then back. i had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights. with something stuck in my arm to put in medicine. so every thing i did was with my right hand straight. i used

@MissTinkJordan GREATER than 150 bpm. 193 is greater than 150.

@tassahara1

SVT happens to me atleast once a week. You say 200 BPM, mine can be the same but i've recorded 300 at the most.

It's very light and faint ones..it seems impossible to detect at a pulse point, just within the heart region itself. Lasts from anywhere between a minute to 30 mins.

If I take a deep breath and hold, after 10-15 seconds it's back to a normal resting rate.

I can't help but think if these events really damage the heart in the long run, it's a terrifying experience.

@MissTinkJordan
it says greater than 150 bpm and at 150.
a nasty rtythm to have, but definitely not as dire as a pulseless electrical activity.

MissTinkJordan said...

the monitor shows the rate to be 193 but you are saying it's 150 why IS that?

I've also had SVTs since I can remember. I've had rates up to @ 200bpm. My episodes are charaterized by brief onsets of flutter that sometimes really take my breath away. Scares the p-- out of me. In the past few years I have discovered something that works almost every time to revert to normal rhythm. It's a yoga move called cat/cow. Youtube it and with the word yoga to see how its done. Breathe out all the breath and in all the breath as much as possible when doing this, really stretching.

@brodudesdabomb Really? Are you OK now?

I have a question. Can coca cola make your heart rate go higher? I asked the doctors the same thing.

@allangee1873 Hi firstly i just want to say anxiety causes both physical and psycological symptoms and often both as in your case by the sounds of it but all i can say is try not to keep it right at the front of your mind ''which is MUCH easier said than done'' but the more time you spend threating about it the worse it may become, like a visious cycle and it's due to adrenaline release by the nervous system the so called fight or flight reflex. Hope it gets easier soon.

I had SVT and In 2008 I had gotten the surgery for it, A month before the surgery I had an episode at school while I was playing basketball and the ambulance was called and they have it recorded that my heart beat was at 288 BPM.

I'm 13 and went to the cardiologist today, He thinks I have this so he sent me home with a device that records my heart rate when I have trobels by touching the sencors on top of the device and I need to do it for a month, Any advice?

@1979Eefje i have been having episodes like this for two years now since i was diagnosed with anxiety disorder . this only started when my anxiety got bad. im really worried about it and looking for some advice if you can spare some. thanks

You also can rub your eyes out like you are achild (lol) by putting the palm of your hand in your eyes and then startmassaging your eyballs....that sounds stupid, but the heartnerve stands in contact with a nerve behind your eyes and by massaging it you can make it stop. The MOST important thing.is to stay calm. thats hard .

1979Eefje said...

About ablation.It is a bit odd and frightning to have someone going into your hart and manipulate your heartrate BUT..you will see if surgery works..IT WILL BE GREAT without those SVT attacks...I promisssssss!

1979Eefje said...

During the svt I always first breath in and out very slowly, than I'll hold my breath and put pressure on my breathing (like being in the toilet...lol) If you continue doing that, you will get less oxigen in your blood, your hart wil react on that by missing 1 of 2 beats,then it can go back in a sinus ritme again.
